NSF Project: Data Complexity and Spatial Scaling
Prediction Accuracy and Implications for Emerging Landscape Paradigms
National Lab Day
National Lab Day is a nationwide effort to foster interest in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and remedy deficiencies in the teaching of these disciplines by crating engaging and developmentally appropriate laboratory exercises for middle and high school students. We participate in this event yearly to expose students to the geospatial sciences using case studies from our project.

STEM Fair
We visited a local elementary school to teach students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades about satellites, aerial photographs, and scale/resolution. Students helped us put together a giant floor map puzzle of their hometown and then showed us where different landmarks were located across the city. Students were able to see how much harder it was to put the puzzle together with low resolution Landsat images compared to high resolution aerial photographs!
